Bryce Harper provides injury update while speaking with the media today

Quick update on Bryce Harper today courtesy of the always lovable Phillies beat reporters.
Bryce Harper told the media that he had three pins put in his left thumb and they have to be there for at least three more weeks. He remained optimistic that he would return to the field and play for the Phillies again this season, but failed to provide any type of timeline as to when that will happen.
It should go without saying, that the Phillies are missing the reigning National League MVP in the middle of their lineup. Harper slashed .318/.385/.599 over his first 64 games this season, crushing 15 HRs, 48 RBIs, a .985 OPS, and a 2.6 WAR.
At the very least, it looks like we’re still on the “six weeks” recovery time for Harper, which would bring him back to the Phillies lineup mid-August. Jean Segura also remains sidelined and like Harper, is expected to return to the Phillies sometime in August.
The Phillies are battling through injuries as of late, with Zach Eflin and Ranger Suarez both on the injured list. Bailey Falter pitched for Eflin last Friday, throwing four innings and allowing three runs on a total of 66 pitches.
Tonight, the Phillies will send Cristopher Sanchez to the mound tonight in the series opener against the Nationals in place of the now injured Suarez.
Phillies Hunt for Red October
On the year, the Phillies are 42-38 and in third place in the National League East. They are eight games behind the East-leading New York Mets.
In the Wild Card, the Phillies are very much in the hunt after winning a series against the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend. They are just one game back of the final Wild Card, held by the St. Louis. The Braves, Padres, and Cardinals currently hold the three available NL Wild Card spots as we inch closer to the All-Star break.
