Ivan Fedotov Update: Flyers prospect sent to Russian Navy Base in the Arctic

Things don’t really seem to be getting much better for Philadelphia Flyers prospect Ivan Fedotov.
After reports came out last week regarding his arrest in Russia, the Flyers goalie prospect was then hospitalized for gastritis on Friday, before being shipped off in the middle of the night to a place called Severomorsk, which is an arctic town in Northern Russia serving as the base of the Russian Navy’s Northern Fleet.
According to Russian law, all men between the ages of 18 and 27 are required to complete at least one year of military service. Failure to do so could result in being sent to prison for two years. Although there are conflicting reports on where Fedotov is at the moment, it appears he’s being forced to serve in the military, likely at this navy base in the middle of the arctic. Just a brutal turn of events.
Ivan Fedotov
The 25-year old Fedotov played in Moscow’s CSKA hockey club, winning the Gagarin Cup last season. Last April, Fedotov decided that he would no longer be playing with the CSKA and instead, would be heading to America and joining the Philadelphia Flyers. According to the Russian government, terminating his contract with Moscow’s CSKA hockey club was illegal. Now, they are throwing the books at him for “evading military service” like a bunch of assholes.
Not great.
Good luck getting Fedotov out of Russia. The entire situation is a total mess and is obviously even more complicated given the fact that Russia is in the midst of a war with Ukraine.
Chuck Fletcher briefly spoke with the media last week and said that the Flyers still expect Fedotov to join the club and make it to the United States, but that doesn’t seem likely given the reports regarding this situation.
