Trending: AJ Brown shuts down reports of Jalen Hurts struggling in practice

As we lumber through the dog days of summer, rumors will begin to circulate around the NFL.
The Eagles are no exception, as reports have surfaced regarding Jalen Hurts’ performance in practice this offseason.
According to Jakib Media’s Derrick Gunn, the second-year starter has “a ways to go” in his development:
“When I asked a few people back in late May about where Jalen Hurts was in his progress, one person said ‘Let me just give you a scenario of what he went through in one day of practice. It’s a 10-play scenario. He had three picks, four incompletions, and three sacks.’ That was his 10-play series.”
“And I followed up with ‘So what are you thinking?’ And the answer was, the direct answer was: ‘He’s got a ways to go.’ And that’s not very encouraging when you hear all this offseason news [about how] he’s working with this quarterback guru, he’s working on his mechanics, he has a second year in Nick Sirianni’s playbook.”
Gunn also indicated that the organization is “not very comfortable right now with Jalen Hurts.” Hearing these things about Hurts is puzzling, considering many people (including myself) watched a very different product during OTA’s last June.
One of Hurts’ newest teammates, WR AJ Brown, appears to be just as bewildered. Once Brown caught wind of said reports, he defended his quarterback and shot down the rumors immediately:

It isn’t a secret that Hurts needs to exhibit visible improvement to cement himself as the long-term starter in Philadelphia. It’s also very likely that Hurts just had a subpar day in practice. As Gunn mentioned, you can only take so much away from a controlled setting during OTA’s and training camp
Let’s hope we get the Jalen Hurts that showed flashes of brilliance come September rather than whatever version this anonymous reporter saw.
The Eagles will get training camp underway two weeks from tomorrow, July 26.
