Aaron Nola Phillies NLDS Game 3

Preview: Aaron Nola takes the hill at 7:15 as the Phillies look for a series win against the Cardinals

The Phillies take the field tonight at 7:15 EST, looking to secure a series win against the St. Louis Cardinals. Aaron Nola (5-6, 3.15 ERA) is set to get the ball for the Phils, going up against Miles Mikolas (5-7, 2.72 ERA).

Sunday’s loss was the first time St. Louis scored this whole series, after a successful opening two games at Busch Stadium for the Phils. The 4-3 loss was powered by Albert Pujols’ 684th HR and a bang-bang play at the plate that didn’t go in the Phils’ favor.

If there was a game to lose, it was always the bullpen game, and the Phils will now get one of their aces on the mound to close out the series. The Phillies are 6 games over .500 and hold a 1-game lead on the Cardinals. Tonight’s win would give the Phils a 2-game lead, which could be key, with the upcoming loss of many players due to Toronto’s COVID vaccine rules.

Although Sunday was a loss, the NL All-Star Reserves were announced, and Kyle Schwarber has officially been named a reserve for back-to-back years. Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola got robbed, as well as Rhys Hoskins and Seranthony Dominguez, who were all in the running. The Phils had just two All-Stars, but only one that will play, as Bryce Harper is still out.

Aaron Nola vs Miles Mikolas

Nola takes the hill, coming off a seven-inning, three-earned run loss vs the Nationals at home. Nola has been fantastic on the road in 2022, holding just a 2.13 ERA with 61 strikeouts in 8 starts. Miles Mikolas has been his best at home, holding a 2-2 record with a 2.60 ERA and 42 strikeouts.
