Phillies Roster Moves: Suarez and Camargo reinstated, two former #1 picks optioned to Lehigh Valley

The Phillies have reinstated LHP Ranger Suarez and INF Johan Camargo from the Inured List, according to the team. As a corresponding move, RHP Mark Appel and OF Mickey Moniak have been optioned to AAA Lehigh Valley.
Ranger Suarez is lined up to pitch today vs. the Marlins at 4:10 EST, taking on the Marlins’ recently-promoted prospect Max Meyer. Suarez hit the 15-day IL back on July 5th (retro to 6/30) with lower back spasms. He’s 6-5 on the year with a 4.33 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. He’s totaled 79 innings and holds a 5-1 record with a 3.61 ERA on the road.
The Phillies get their utility man off the bench back in Johan Camargo. Camargo was on and off the IL in June, but after making a rehab assignment in AAA, is ready to head back to the majors. He’s slashing .230/.296/.317 in 47 games this season but has been a great defensive glove that can be used all around the infield.
Former 1st overall pick Mark Appel has been optioned back to AAA Lehigh Valley. Appel was great in his first 7 major league innings, allowing just 1 earned run and striking out 3, good for an ERA of 1.29 and a WHIP of 1.143. Mark Appel pitched great in his time up with the team, but with the current stance of the Phillies bullpen finally being fully healthy, there’s truly no room for Appel on the roster, especially after getting Connor Brogdon back yesterday.
The Mickey Moniak experience continues to be a rollercoaster. Mick was sentenced back to AAA after hitting just .130/.184/.152 in 18 games this season. Moniak has been a consistent glove in the outfield but has really struggled at the plate, and with the way Matt Vierling has hit as of recent, there’s no reason for Moniak to just sit on the bench every night. Let the greatest AAA baseball player of all time go back to Lehigh Valley and rake.
The Phillies got a huge win last night against Sandy Alcantara and square off against the Marlins again today at 4:10 EST.
