Nick Castellanos gets into heated exchange with NBC Sports Philadelphia reporter following Saturday night’s loss

Things got a little heated with OF Nick Castellanos and Phillies insider Jim Salisbury following Saturday night’s loss to the Cubs.
Jim Salisbury vs Nick Castellanos
Jim Salisbury, NBC Philly’s Phillies insider, asked Nick Castellanos if he heard the boos following his strikeout in tonight’s game. Castellanos didn’t like the question from Salisbury, sarcastically saying he “lost his hearing” which was honestly a pretty funny response to a pretty stupid question from Salisbury.
Castellanos: “Nah man, I lost my hearing. Cmon man, it’s a stupid question…Can anybody else answer that for him?”
Salisbury wasn’t having it from Castellanos, saying multiple times that it wasn’t a stupid question.
Salisbury: “It’s not a stupid question…YOU should be able to answer it…it wasn’t a stupid question”
The question from Jim Salisbury was stupid and only asked to put Castellanos in a corner and ideally, get some type of reaction from him. Sure, Nick Castellanos can’t let the emotions get the best of him and shouldn’t have responded so sarcastically, but it definitely was a stupid question and could have been approached differently by Salisbury. He’s better than that.
Then, to have Jim Salisbury respond like that to Castellanos after he said the question was stupid is pretty bizarre. In all his years covering the Phillies, I’ve never seen Salisbury react like that. “If it’s a stupid question, you should be able to answer it!”. Yeah, okay Jim. But the point Castellanos is making is that it was a stupid question so he doesn’t want to answer it because you already know the answer to the said question. Relax dude.
Also if you’re going to wear a mask in the locker room lets keep that puppy above your nose, k?
In all seriousness, I look back at the way Salisbury propped up Alec Bohm after the “Hate This Place” comments and helped him get through that in the locker room and then I look at the video above and it doesn’t even seem like it’s the same two people. Weird.
Nick Castellanos, as we all know, has been a disappointment so far for the Phillies, and tonight was an example of the fans starting to let him know. I’m pretty sure every player and person in this city by now knows that if you’re not meeting your potential, you’re likely going to get booed.
Castellanos is no exception. He’s is slashing just .248/.294/.370 on the year with 8 HRs, 46 RBIs, and an 87 OPS+. After a hot start to the season, the veteran outfielder just hasn’t been able to find his groove at the plate and continues to struggle in the four-hole for the Fightins.
Maybe this type of exchange will turn into a good thing for Castellanos. Something needs to get him out of his slump, and maybe Jim Salisbury’s stupid question will be the reason he turns things around. Although handled differently, that certainly worked for Alec Bohm.
The Phillies take on the Cubs on Sunday at 12:05 EST looking to avoid the sweep.
Note from Drew Smith: Hey Jimbo, if you’re going to wear a mask, make sure it goes over the nose pal. Cmon, common knowledge.
It was not a stupid question at all, it was time to start asking… it was designed to get the player to acknowledge a slumping season past the half way point…. Castellanos paid was a huge amount of money to come to Philly with expectations of an elite player to lift the team to a higher level. He has not been great, he has been very mediocre…the fans and commentators have been very quietly hopeful and supportive and now the commentators and fans are losing patience, the honeymoon is over, he gets a little pressure and loses his composure like that shows he has head problems, Nobody wants to hear one day at a time just having FUN man ,,,its officially a big let down. and this scene ain’t gonna make it any easier for him going forward in Philly I can tell you that!!
