Jason Kelce puts bubblewrap on his helmet, mocking the NFL’s dumb new Guardian Cap rules in training camp

The NFL has made Guardian Caps mandatory for specific positions, at a specific times for all 32 teams during training camp.
Guardian Caps will be mandatory at all practices through the second preseason games. Only offensive lineman, defensive lineman, linebackers, and tight ends will be required to wear the new Guardian Caps.
Yes, the NFL is attempting to reduce concussions, making them mandatory for just a few types of positions, only until after the second preseason game.
“Preseason is the part of the season with the greatest concentration of helmet impacts,” the league explained in a statement to PFT. “Wearing Guardian Cap results in at least a 10 percent reduction in severity of impact if one player is wearing it, and at least a 20 percent reduction in impact if two players in a collision are wearing it.”
Does that make sense to anyone? I’m going to have to say no. I get the fact that the caps reduce impact, but only using them during specific times on certain position groups really doesn’t seem like it’s going to help anyone in the long term.

Players aren’t wearing them during actual games or even preseason games which pretty much makes this entire thing just another NFL PR move so they can pretend like they are doing the right things to address the concussion issue.
Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce appears to be getting a head start on the new NFL protocol, and was seen today going “full bubble boy” at training camp in order to protect “the ole noggin.”
Jason Kelce’s Guardian Cap
Good on Jason Kelce for getting ahead of player safety protocols. The 34-year old Eagles center isn’t wasting anytime making sure his head is completely protected from concussions.
I highly doubt it’s just a coincidence that the NFL announces their stupid mandatory Guardian Cap rules and now our veteran leader in Philadelphia is walking around with bubble wrap on his head at camp. Kelce, as usual, providing a small, but clever way to voice his opinion about dumb NFL rules without saying much of anything.
Cheers.
UPDATE – Kevin Kinkead over at Crossing Broad with a nice thread on the Guardian Caps and Lane Johnson / Jason Kelce response. Here’s a part of it.

Dumb?😅 it may look dumb but it’s a dumb rule? CTE is cool? Getting a concussion during practice is fun? Further protecting your BRAIN and the functions of your life after football is dumb? 😅 be awfully funny if JJ Watt and Kelse both got conclusions week 1 after talking trash on the idea of these 🤣 maybe tell the helmet companies to make better helmets and you wouldn’t have to wear these “dumb” helmet covers
