Preview: Phillies look to win their third game in a row, Bailey Falter on the mound at 7:05

Coming off a nail-biting win on Thursday night, the Phillies take the field at 7:05 EST looking to win their third game in a row. Bailey Falter (0-3, 5.18 ERA) gets the ball for the Phils, going up against Jose Quintana (3-5, 3.70 ERA) of Pittsburgh.

The first eight innings of last night’s game were beautiful, as the Phillies put up seven runs including a 3-run bomb from Kyle Schwarber, his 32nd of the year. Alec Bohm continued to do his thing, and every single Phillie got a hit last night, giving the Phillies an 8-2 lead heading into the 9th. It seemed like everything was good until Jeurys Familia entered the game.

Familia has been an absolute disgrace to the Phillies bullpen this year, and last night just made it worse. He allowed five earned runs and four hits in a third of an inning on just 19 pitches, bringing the score to 8-7. Luckily, the Phils have Seranthony Dominguez, who was able to close out the game just fine. Throwing Seranthony in a once 7-0 game isn’t ideal, but he did only throw four pitches.

The Phillies will now look to win their third game in a row tonight with Bailey Falter on the mound. With the trade deadline on Tuesday, if everything goes according to plan, this could be Falter’s last start, as the Phils have been rumored to have a young starting pitcher from Cleveland “on their radar”.

Bailey Falter vs Jose Quintana

Bailey Falter will get the start tonight for the Phillies, as Zach Eflin remains on the IL. Falter is 0-3 on the year with a 5.18 ERA and has struggled over his last three outings, allowing nine earned runs in just 13 innings. He’ll face off against Jose Quintana, a name that I’d love the Phillies to take a look at ahead of the deadline. Quintana is 3-5 on the year with a 3.70 ERA, a 2.65 home ERA, and 55 Ks.

I think the Phillies bats continue to hit, and this one turns high-scoring. Phils win 8-6.
