Braves pound Phillies 13-1 after fantastic trade deadline day

The Braves pounded the Phillies 13-1 on a day that will be remembered much more the exciting trade acquisitions than the turd they laid on the field Tuesday night.
Braves (63-41) Beat Phillies (55-48)Â
- Winning Pitcher: Spencer Strider (6-3, 2.79)
- Losing Pitcher: Nick Nelson (3-2, 4.14)

On an exciting deadline day in which the Phillies acquired a starting pitcher, veteran bullpen piece, and defensive outfielder the team on the field forgot about the game against the division rival Braves.
Still shorthanded because of an injury to Zach Eflin, Rob Thompson chose to give Wednesday’s expected starter Zack Wheeler an extra day rest The decision seemed to backfire as the Braves throttled Phillies pitching for 14 total hits, including seven in a six-run 5th inning.
Five of the six relievers that took the mound allowed earned runs, including Corey Knebel, who gave up five runs in only 2/3rd of an inning after looking dominant during the month of July.
The Phillies only run came on a Darick Hall line drive RBI single in the 2nd inning that ricocheted off Braves first basemen Matt Olson’s glove and skirted into right field allowing Nick Castellanos to score from 1st base. After the 2nd inning, the Phils could only muster two additional hits as Braves pitcher Spencer Strider eased through the lineup with 13 strikeouts over just 6.2 innings of work.
Do we need to talk about the Phillies record in these quick two-game series MLB has scheduled this season? Needless to say it’s not going very well…
