Phillies Roster Updates: Didi Gregorius released, Jean Segura and Kyle Gibson return, Syndergaard and Marsh report

The Phillies have announced a multitude of roster moves ahead of tonight’s 7:05 matchup with the Washington Nationals.
Veteran INF Didi Gregorius has been released, making room for Jean Segura’s return from the 60-day IL. Kyle Gibson has been activated from the bereavement list, while the newest acquisitions Brandon Marsh and Noah Syndergaard have reported to the team. Syndergaard is set to make his Phillies debut tonight against Washington.
Didi Gregorius’ time with the Phils is officially over, after hitting just .210/.263/.304 on the year with 1 homer and 19 RBIs. Didi’s posted a 60 OPS+ on the year and just a .567 OPS in 63 games.
With the newest additions to the roster (Syndergaard, Marsh, Robertson), the Phillies didn’t really have room to keep Didi, especially with the cluttered infield room. Here’s where the infield depth currently stands…
- Jean Segura
- Rhys Hoskins
- Alec Bohm
- Bryson Stott
- Edmundo Sosa
- Yairo Munoz
Jean Segura returns to the team tonight, and the Phillies now get their everyday 2nd baseman back. Segura slashed .275/.324/.407 in 44 games before he got injured back on June 1st, with 6 HRs, 19 RBIs, and an OPS+ of 106.
Kyle Gibson returns from the bereavement list after taking a leave from the team due to the unfortunate passing of his grandmother. Gibson will start on Friday night vs Josiah Gray.
The Phillies return to CBP tonight as Noah Syndergaard makes his Phils debut at 7:05 EST.
