Bryce Harper commits to Team USA for the 2023 World Baseball Classic

Bryce Harper has committed to play for Team USA in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
Although the Phillies slugger is still on the IL, the 2021 MVP has officially committed to play in the 2023 World Baseball Classic for Team USA. Bryce Harper joins a stacked USA lineup, including Phillies catcher JT Realmuto, who agreed to play last week.

The WBC is back for the first time since 2019 after COVID-19 canceled the tournament that was set to be held in 2021. The four host cities for the 2023 WBC are Taichung, Tokyo, Phoenix, and Miami. The tournament will kick off on March 8th, 2023.
Harper was slashing .318/.385/.599 in 64 games before going down, with 15 HRs, 48 RBIs, and an OPS of .985. The Phillies outfielder was on pace for another MVP season before being hit in the hand with a 97-mph fastball from Blake Snell.
Although his throwing program was paused a few days ago, Harper’s bat is expected to return to the lineup at some point in August. The Phillies take on the New York Mets tonight in the first of a crucial 3-game set. Check out our series preview here.
