Phillies Update: Kyle Schwarber likely to avoid the injured list

Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson spoke with the media today in regards to Kyle Schwarber, who left Thursday’s game with a mild right calf strain.
Schwarber is feeling much better today and was upbeat after hitting in a cage. The Phillies believe that he will avoid the injured list.
Losing Schwarber for any extended period of time would have been a major blow in the Phillies’ hunt for the playoffs. Perfect example would be this weekend’s series against the Mets, where New York will use three right-handed pitchers against the Phillies.
To say the very least, with Bryce Harper out, losing Schwarber as well from the left side would have hurt this ball club. Matt Gelb added that it wasn’t clear if Schwarber was available to pinch-hit tonight if the Phillies needed him.
Honestly, take the night off and let’s revisit tomorrow. We don’t need to aggravate anything and it’s still the middle of August for crying out loud.
