Roster Moves: Eagles cut two players as 85-player deadline approaches

New league-mandated roster changes went into effect this year, with teams needing to trim down from 90 to 85 players after the first preseason game.
The Eagles began that process this morning, announcing the releases of OL William Dunkle and LB Ali Fayad.

Dunkle and Fayad both signed with Philadelphia as undrafted free agents this offseason. I’m a bit surprised that the Eagles cut Fayad so soon — he was the MAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 with 12.0 sacks, 17.5 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles.
With the injection of new talent at linebacker, however, it appears that Fayad was the odd man out.
The Eagles have until 4 PM on Tuesday to get their roster down to 85 players.
