Flyers Updates: Jackson Cates re-signs, Flyers lose rights on 2018 defensive prospect

The Philadelphia Flyers re-signed Jackson Cates, the older brother of Noah Cates, to a one-year, two-way $775,000 contract.
Jackson will join his younger brother Noah in the fight for playing time on the Flyers this upcoming season. Cates will turn 25 next month. In 11 games with the Flyers last season, he scored his first career NHL goal. In 37 games with the Flyers AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley, he finished with two goals and eight assists (10 Points).Â

Cates joins Owen Tippett, Zack MacEwen, Morgan Frost, Isaac Ratcliffe, and Tanner Laczynski as restricted free agents that also signed new deals with the Flyers this summer.
Wade Allison, Hayden Hodgson, and Linus Hogberg are the other Flyers that are restricted free agents that currently do not have new contracts yet.
In other Flyers news, the team did NOT extend an entry-level contract to college prospect Jack St. Ivany, making the 2018 fourth-round draft pick an unrestricted free agent.Â
The Flyers were limited to the entry-level contracts they had available after signing Cam York, Ronnie Attard, and Emil Andrae. They also have contracts committed on defense to Egor Zamula, Mason Millman, Adam Ginning, and Cooper Zech.
As mentioned above, Linus Hogberg is a restricted free agent that is also expected to sign a new contract before the start of training camp.
