Merrill Reese: This Eagles WR corps might be the most talented group yet

When Merrill Reese speaks, Eagles fans listen.
Not only because his angelic voice is soul soothing, but because whenever he says something about the Eagles, it’s always thoughtful. The voice of the team since 1977, Reese is like you and I. He’s just another passionate Eagles fan who wants nothing more than for the Birds to succeed.
Unlike all of us, he typically shies away from being hyperbolic. Which is why his most recent tweet regarding the Eagles WR corps is noteworthy.
Reese on the Eagles WR corps:
I agree wholeheartedly with Reese’s claim. In my 26 years of existence, the Eagles have never had a wide receiving group this deep and this talented.
The only group that even comes close was the trio of DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, and Jason Avant. While they all put up solid numbers during the regular season, the trio never won a playoff game together.
Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor, and Torrey Smith from 2017 often gets overlooked. They combined for 19 touchdowns during the regular season, but they only had one full season together.
Not only is this current group of wideouts stout top to bottom, their skill sets all complement each other perfectly. AJ Brown is a deep threat and YAC monster. DeVonta Smith is a route running technician who can shake any cornerback.
Quez Watkins is a threat to take it to the house everytime he touches the ball because of his blazing speed. Even Zach Pascal brings a unique blend of toughness and veteran savvy to the position group.
Each of those four receivers will have a defined role within Nick Sirianni’s offense in 2022.
Now, just imagine if Jalen Reagor steps up this season. I know I’m one of the few who still has any faith in the kid, but it could happen.
In that scenario, the Eagles will run five-deep at wideout. When’s the last time any of us could say that? Never, the answer is never.
