Jerry Seinfeld blames the “Stupid Trumpet Song” for the Mets recent collapse
Last night, the Atlanta Braves beat the Oakland Athletics to tie the New York Mets atop the National League East standings for the first time since April 11th.
This morning, the Mets placed Max Scherzer on the 15-Day Injured List with oblique discomfort.
The Mets were in sole possession of first place all but one day throughout the season.
- On April 11th they were 3-2.
- On June 1st they had a 10.5 game lead and have gone 50-34 since then.
The problem, is that the Atlanta Braves are the hottest team in baseball and have gone 62-24 over that same span. So who’s to blame outside of the Atlanta Braves? Well, Jerry Seinfeld chimed in and gave his thoughts on Instagram.

The trumpets. The answer is found in the trumpets. Of course. Seinfeld nailed it.
He blames the stupid Trumpet performance and the Mets celebrating in season when they haven’t won shit yet. It’s like my prayers were answered. Nothing makes me happier than trumpet trashing.

I’m not even going to post the video. You know exactly what I’m talking about. The Edwin Diaz trumpet song stinks out loud and I have been praying for the day Mets fans start to turn on it.
Look at any of the videos. All Mets fans just sit there with their phones out and film it. No one is even into it I guess? There should be some sense of energy inside Citi Field and there’s literally NOTHING happening. The entire thing is embarrassing to watch.
Then to make it even more cringe, they brought the actual trumpet dude out to Citi Field to play the trumpet? That was at the end of August? I know the Mets are never good but hell, at least save it for the playoffs. Now you’re sitting here and watching the NL East slip away from you and go to the Braves again.
Nice job idiots. Again, Jerry was right.
That day has finally come.
It would be bittersweet if the Mets collapse continues and the trumpet song is to blame. Nothing would bring me more joy in life. We can all stop the “I’m not a Mets fan but…” tweets.
You’re all losers.
That song has been total trash since the first video was put on social media and it’s only gotten worse every time it’s reposted.
