Mark Appel has also been recalled from Lehigh Valley but placed on the 60-day IL with right elbow inflammation. Cristopher Sanchez was optioned last night, making room for Eflin on the roster.
Zach Eflin returns to the Phillies team for the first time since June after dealing with lingering knee problems for months. Eflin threw two bullpens at CBP over the last week and made one start in Lehigh Valley back on Friday.

Bet $10 and win $200 if any NFL or College Team Scores a Touchdown. Yes, it’s that easy.
Eflin was 3-5 in his 7th season with the Phillies before hitting the IL with 56 strikeouts in 68 total innings in 2022. He held a 4.37 ERA in that time, with a 3.73 SO/W and a 1.191 WHIP. Although there isn’t enough time to build Eflin back up to his starting pitching ways, expect Eflin to come out of the Phillies bullpen for the rest of the season or even be used as an opener.
