Eagles News: Lions S Tracy Walker fined for late hit against QB Jalen Hurts in Week 1

Detroit Lions safety Tracy Walker has been fined $11,139 for his unnecessary roughness penalty against Eagles QB Jalen Hurts during the teams’ Week 1 contest, per NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Dave Zangaro.
The fifth-year safety was all over the field last Sunday, leading his team with 13 combined tackles and one sack.
Detroit was heading hunting during the entire contest. The referees finally penalized Detroit for their recklessness in the final minutes of the third quarter, when Walker inexcusably lowered his helmet into a sliding Hurts.

Hurts’ teammates weren’t very pleased with Walker’s actions, as Zach Pascal and Dallas Goedert quickly confronted the safety after the whistle was blown. After being shoved a few times, Walker decided to swing on an Eagles player, which led to the Lions’ defensive back getting ejected.
This is the first time Walker has received a fine from NFL for an unnecessary roughness penalty, though he did get fined for his criticism of an officiating crew following a 2019 loss to Green Bay.
Luckily for the Eagles, Hurts walked away from the hit unscaved and never went into concussion protocol. His Eagles will face the Minnesota Vikings this upcoming Monday night in front of a raucous Lincoln Financial Field crowd.
