Eagles CB Darius Slay wins NFC Defensive Player of the Week

In news that shouldn’t come as any surprise to Eagles fans across the Delaware Valley, Darius Slay has won NFC Defensive Player of the Week after his lockdown performance on Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings.
On six targets as the nearest defender, Slay held Jefferson to just one reception for seven yards while recording five pass-breakups and two interceptions.
Slay Island: Justin Jefferson
Following the game, Slay had all the respect in the world for Jefferson, one of the best receivers in the NFL, but praised his own name as well.
“You know how it always goes — the older you get, the more they think you’re falling off. But I ain’t one of them guys. I’m still at an elite level. I deserve a lot of respect in this league,” Slay said. “I take no matchup lightly, but he is one of the best in the world — and I’m one of the best in the world, too.”

The Eagles defense lived up to expectations in Week 2 against the Vikings after a less than stellar Week 1 performance against the Detroit Lions. Dalvin Cook was held to just 17 yards on six carries while Kirk Cousins, who continued to look like a junior varsity quarterback on Monday Night Football, was just 24-46 with a dismal 17.5 QBR.
