76ers Buzz: Matisse Thybulle turning heads at training camp

Over the past few days, the Sixers have been down in Charleston, South Carolina conducting training camp.
Given the newfound depth the team has after a very successful offseason, there is sure to competition for rotation spots.
One player looking to solidify his spot in Doc Rivers’ rotation is Matisse Thybulle. Everyone knows what the 25-year-old can do on the defensive end, but his limitations on offense have been a liability at times over the years.
Thybulle’s work this offseason was mentioned multiple times during media day, and it appears to be paying dividends. The young forward has turned many heads, including Joel Embiid, who gave him a shoutout following a hard day of practice at camp.
I’m so proud of him. So far, you can tell he’s put in the work all summer. He’s been amazing. Obviously, he needs to keep going when it matters, but he’s made a lot of improvement and that’s what we want. That’s what we want from everybody on this team and he’s been doing an amazing job. Per Ky Carlin of USA Today.
Doc Rivers impressed with Matisse Thybulle so far in training camp
Another person who touched on Thybulle’s performance thus far is Sixers head coach Doc Rivers. He has been most impressed by the defensive specialist showing a willingness to let it fly from beyond the arc.
He’s working on his shot. Yesterday (Wednesday), he had a great offensive day. He made three or four 3s, shooting the ball well. Today (Thursday), he didn’t make any and that’s OK. What I like is when he misses one, you don’t notice. They swung it to him on the next play and he shot it again so those are positive steps.
Becoming even a league-average outside shooter is a key piece for Thybulle as he continues to grow his game. If he can get back to the 35.7% mark he shot as a rookie, he will be in the conversation for league’s top three-and-D wing.
This is a big year for Thybulle as he will become a restricted free agent next offseason. If he can take a step forward in his development, he could be in line for a handsome payday.
