It was suspected that Fangio was involved with Philadelphia in some facet, as Bleeding Green Nation has previously mentioned his appearances at Eagles training camp over the summer.
Fangio’s name grew popular as a potential DC replacement last spring when Gannon garnered head coaching interest. After receiving multiple team offers during the offseason, Fangio ultimately decided to take the year off but didn’t close the door to a possible return.
“We’ll see where things stand and develop and what’s available to see if I’m a good match for somebody,” Fangio told Chris Tomasson in August, “but it’s definitely a possibility, probably as a coordinator.”
The longtime DC carries over 30 years of experience and an influential resume that speaks for itself. Whenever he makes himself available, Fangio will be the most sought-after coordinator on the market.
As of now, Gannon and Fangio have the Eagles’ defense ranked amongst the league’s best:
- Sacks: 17 (5th)
- 294 yards allowed/game (4th)
- 17.6 points allowed/game (7th)
- +9 turnover differential (1st)
