WATCH: Ron Rivera press conference meltdown

Following the Commanders ugly 12-7 win over the Bears on Thursday night, coach Ron Rivera had a meltdown over reports that quarterback Carson Wentz was forced on him by owner Dan Snyder.
Ron Rivera calls reports bullshit:
“Everybody keeps saying I didn’t want anything to do with Carson, well bulls—,” Rivera said. “I’m the f—ing guy that pulled out the sheets of paper, looked at the analytics, watched the tape when we were at Indianapolis, OK? And that’s what pisses me off, cause the young man doesn’t deserve to have that all the time.” via ESPN
The question was in reference to a report on Dan Snyder that laid the blame for the Commander’s trade for Wentz at the owner’s feet. It also came just days after Ron Rivera outright blamed his quarterback for their team’s slow start compared to other teams in the NFC East.
When asked what was the reason the Commanders are struggling compared to every other NFC East team he immediately said “Quarterback.” There was no hesitation. He tried to walk back the statement but it was too late.
The latest report only fed into that narrative, so his reaction here to a very simple question plays like a desperate attempt at overcorrecting to try to save face. Also referring to a balding man that is nearly 30 as a “young man” feels like a reach by Ron Rivera here.
It’s been downright magical to watch the Carson Wentz experience unfold in Washington. The latest stop in the possibly cursed signal caller’s career has felt like a speedrun of all his prior season’s issues.
Flashes of brilliance and incredible throws followed by bizarre decision making. An inability to feel or escape pressure in the pocket and an aloof disregard for his team that eventually leads to frustration with him leaking into the media. It’s all already happened within the first six weeks of the season. Truly amazing.
