Angelo Cataldi tries to chug beer, fails miserably, should be forced to retire early

Love him or hate him, Angelo Cataldi has been the voice of Sports Radio 94WIP, the biggest sports station in Philadelphia, for over three decades now.
If you’re an avid WIP listener, you’ll know Angelo plans to retire at the end of this year. He has stated that how far the Eagles go in the playoffs this season could push back his retirement date, but at 71 years old, I think we can all agree it’s time for a new voice to takeover the morning show.
Aside from his outdated Philly sports propaganda (specifically his weird hatred towards Any Reid) and slow deterioration into sports hysteria, we may look back at the time Angelo Cataldi tried to chug a beer live on air as the moment when we all knew, it was time for the old geezer to hang it up.
During hour three of Tuesday’s morning show, Angelo and his team was joined by Phillies manager Rob Thomson. But that’s where the excitement ended, as Cataldi, for some inexplicable reason, attempted to chug a beer shortly after Thomson left the program.
As a resident beer chugger here at The Liberty Line (we have more than a few at this company), I can only describe what you’re about to watch as an abomination to everything Philly sports fans stand for.
Angelo Cataldi channels his inner sorority girl while chugging a beer live on the air
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, Angelo. What the hell was that?
Angelo Cataldi went from interviewing drunk strippers in studio to be ‘Wingettes’ for the once beloved Wing Bowl to… whatever this is. He even grilled former President Barack Obama on the air back in 2008, when the Senator was attempting to win over Pennsylvania. Obama was supposed to come on the show to talk sports. Instead, Angelo asked him all about his political views and why the great people of the Delaware Valley should cast their vote for him.
Angelo used to speak for all Philadelphians when he took his seat behind the mic. Now, Wing Bowl is gone, he rarely grills his guests on anything important, and he can’t even chug a beer.
As the old adage goes, retire when you’re at your peak. Angelo Cataldi’s peak came about five years ago, sadly.
Hopefully, whoever takes his place on the morning show can recapture what made the show so great in the first place. Number one on that list of requirements, manage to chug a beer without looking like a fool.
