It’s the largest spread of any opening line for Week 9. The next closest is the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets matchup, where Buffalo is favored by 12.5 points.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that the Eagles are heavy favorites heading into their game with Houston, despite it being a road game and on a short week. In simple terms, the Eagles are arguably the best team in the NFL, while Houston is arguably the worst team in the NFL. Of course the spread on this one was going to lean heavily towards Philadelphia.
Houston enters Week 9 with a 1-5-1 record and fresh off a 17-10 loss at the hands of Tennessee. To their credit, Houston hasn’t been getting blown out every week. They’ve lost by double digits twice this year, with every other game being decided by seven points or less.
On the other hand, the Eagles have been dominant on both sides of the ball all season and the final scores for the majority of their games reflect that. They’ve won by seven points or more in four out of seven games in 2022 and they’re coming off their best overall performance to date against Pittsburgh. They racked up over 100 yards on the ground and 290 yards through the air while holding Pittsburgh to just 4.6 yards per play and forcing two turnovers.
The Eagles are 5-2 against the spread this season, including their win on Sunday where they were 10.5-point favorites over Pittsburgh. Houston boasts a 3-3-1 record against the spread this season.
13.5 points is a lot, but the Eagles have proven time and time again that they can dominate any opponent put in front of them. Even on a short week and on the road, there’s no reason to fade the Eagles now.
