Birds Bets: Eagles open up as double-digit favorites over Washington in Week 10

For the third week in a row, the Philadelphia Eagles have opened up as double-digit favorites over their upcoming opponent.
The Eagles were 10.5-point favorites over Pittsburgh in Week 8, a full 14-point favorites over Houston last Thursday night, and now they’ve opened up as 10.5-point favorites over the Washington Commanders ahead of their Monday night matchup.

Over the past two weeks, Philly has gone 1-1 against the spread. Fresh off their bye week, the team managed to cover the 10.5 points against the Steelers two weeks ago. On short rest facing Houston on the road, the Eagles pulled off a double-digit victory, but failed to cover the two-touchdown spread.
On the year, the Eagles boast a 5-3 record against the spread. Their ATS record is tied for the third-best mark in the NFL this season.
The last time Philly faced Washington, it was Carson Wentz leading the charge for the Commanders. The former Eagles signal caller was abused by the Philly pass rush in Week 3. He was sacked nine times on the afternoon and didn’t find the end zone until garbage time in the fourth quarter.
This time around, Taylor Heinicke will be at the reigns for Washington. Since he’s taken over, his team has gone 2-1 and almost pulled off an upset over the one-loss Vikings this past Sunday. His stats aren’t amazing; five touchdowns to three interceptions along with a 63% completion percentage and 87.6 passer rating. For one reason or another, the team seems to respond to Heinicke every time he lines up under center.
Along with Heinicke helping kickstart the offense, Washington may also get vaunted pass rusher Chase Young back in their lineup this week. Young was back on the practice field last week after suffering a torn ACL last season, but the team decided the err on the side of caution. Week 10 will be the one-year anniversary of Young’s injury and all signs are pointing towards his return.
At 8-0 and atop the NFL standings, the Eagles have a huge target on their backs. Washington has played relatively well as of late and there’s no doubt they’ll come into Philadelphia with something to prove.
Divisional matchups are always tough. It’s cliche but it’s true. Taking the 10.5 points for the Eagles is a bit risky, but I still believe they’ll win the game and move to 9-0 on the season.
Washington has the ability to keep this game close. But in the end, they don’t have the horses to keep up with the Eagles high flying offensive attack.
