Phillies decline Jean Segura’s $17M option for 2023

The Phillies have declined Jean Segura’s $17M club option for the 2023 season.
Jean Segura will now test the free agent market and will most certainly get a deal from a team that is still trying to compete. Segura, who is just 32 years old, still has a lot left in the tank, but it just doesn’t make sense for him to come back to Philadelphia, especially for $17M.
Segura slashed .277/.336/.387 in 2022, tallying 10 HRs and 33 RBIs in just 98 games. Segura was hurt for a good part of the year but was a big part of the team in the late-September run and early rounds of the playoffs.

Jean played four seasons in Philadelphia, slashing .281/.337/.418 in that time. Segura was always trustworthy in the field and had many clutch moments as a Phillie, with his slap single to right-field in the 9th inning of Game 1 of the NLWCS topping that list.
Jean Segura’s best hit of his career
