Bryce Harper set to have UCL surgery next week, timetable for 2023 is unknown

Phillies star Bryce Harper is set to have UCL surgery next Wednesday, Dave Dombrowski announced in today’s end-of-the-season press conference.
Bryce Harper Will Receive UCL Surgery
It is unknown as of now if the surgery will be Tommy John, which would most certainly sideline Harper longer than just normal UCL surgery. Dombrowski has not given a timetable for Harper’s return in 2023.
Bryce Harper suffered an elbow injury early in the year, which is the reason that he was the DH for the rest of the 2022 season. Moving to the DH spot didn’t affect Harper’s bat, as he still slashed .286/.364/.514 on the year.
Harper had one of the best postseason runs baseball has ever seen, hitting .349 in 17 playoff games, racking up an OBP of .414 and a .746 slugging percentage. He hit 6 HRs, 13 RBIs, 22 hits, scored 12 runs, and logged seven doubles in that time.
Don’t panic. Tommy John surgery is a lot less serious for position players, and it’s not even confirmed that Harper will be receiving that type of surgery. What we do know is that Harper most likely won’t be ready for Opening Day. The typical timetable for a position player returning from Tommy John is around 5-7 months.
