Week 13 Power Rankings Roundup: Eagles hot on Kansas City’s trail

The Philadelphia Eagles are in firm command of the NFC’s top seed following their 40-33 victor over Green Bay on Sunday night.
As Jalen Hurts attempts to catch Patrick Mahomes in the race for league MVP, where do the Eagles rank heading into Week 13?
Let’s take a look.

Monster performances in prime-time games can serve as ultra fuel in an MVP race. Jalen Hurts showed a huge audience what a difference-maker he can be on Sunday Night Football, breaking Michael Vick’s franchise record for quarterbacks with 157 rushing yards in a 40-33 win over the Packers.
Hurts also became the first NFL QB since at least 1950 with 150 rush yards, 150 passing yards and at least two passing scores in a single game. The Eagles nearly made team history, as well: Philly rushed for a whopping 363 yards, falling just 13 yards shy of the franchise record, set way back in 1948. Said RB Miles Sanders: “It’s chasing greatness every week.”

They have the best record in the league at 10-1, an MVP candidate in Jalen Hurts and a cold-weather-friendly offense that can suck the life out of you on the ground and rip it up through the air when need be. The defense is opportunistic and leads the league in takeaways (23).
The Eagles are as deep and well-rounded as any other team in football, and have already beaten the conference’s top contenders in the Vikings and Cowboys, though the Cowboys were without Dak Prescott in that Week 6 matchup. The rematch on Christmas Eve in Dallas should be fun.

That running game is potent. They will be tough to stop. But the defense has run game problems that have to be addressed.

The Philadelphia Eagles have a long history of mobile quarterbacks, whether it was Randall Cunningham, Donovan McNabb or Michael Vick. But on Sunday night, Jalen Hurts became the best the Eagles have had—at least in one category.
Against the Packers, Hurts set a franchise record for rushing yards by a quarterback, racking up 157 in a win that kept Philadelphia well out in front in the NFC East. The win, however, said less about Eagles history than their future—and their dominance at the point of attack.
“Philadelphia is the league’s most dangerous team for the least sexiest reason ever,” Sobleski said. “The Eagles are dominant in the trenches. Their offensive line is the best in the game. They control the point of attack, pass block at a high level and have the talent to excel in numerous blocking schemes. Granted, a mobile Hurts helps. Yet their 363 rushing yards against the Packers were staggering, even for an elite rushing attack.
“On the other side of the ball, the Philadelphia defensive line took a hit when first-round tackle Jordan Davis (ankle) went on injured reserve. But the group hasn’t missed a beat after bringing in veterans Linval Joseph and Ndamukong Suh.”

I considered dropping the Eagles from the top spot last week, but in Week 12 they proved they deserve to remain here. Jalen Hurts, Miles Sanders, and the Philadelphia offensive line bullied a pillow-soft Packers defense en route to 363 rushing yards, 40 points, and a win on Sunday Night Football. Knocking off the Eagles as the NFC’s top Super Bowl contender will require matching their physicality up front and slowing the run game down.
