Tim MacMahon from ESPN thinks James Harden could return to the Houston Rockets in 2023 Free Agency

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon discussed the possibility of James Harden returning to the Houston Rockets during 2023 free agency.
MacMahon joined Tuesday’s episode of the “Howdy Partner” (bad name) podcast and started “connecting dots” on a Harden return to the Houston Rockets in 2023 free agency. (h/t Sixers Wire / Rockets Wire)
James Harden, Houston Rockets Reunion?
They’ve got like, $60 million, potentially, in cap space this summer. This is not Oklahoma City, Salt Lake City, or San Antonio. This is Houston, a potentially desirable market for free agents.
It will be fascinating to see how free agency plays out. You know how the league works. There’s already been a lot of gossip and dot connecting, ‘Hey, if things don’t work out in Philly, keep an eye out on James Harden back to Houston.’
I think ‘keep an eye out on that’ is certainly fair. First, let’s see how things work out in Philadelphia, where they’re starting to play really good basketball. Also, does that make sense from a Rockets perspective?
Look, obviously this is just speculation and given the relationship between Harden and Daryl Morey, I really don’t think there’s anything to be concerned about. James Harden is in Philadelphia to play with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey with the common goal of winning an NBA Championship. Harden has been extremely vocal about adding a trophy to his legacy and all things considered, has a fantastic shot at doing just that with the 76ers.
James Harden on his Legacy
Harden is averaging 21.9 points (43.4% FG, 36.1% 3PT FG), 10.5 rebounds, and 6.6 assists in 37.9 minutes per game this season. The 76ers are 17-12 and in the No. 5 spot in the Eastern Conference, winning five straight games. They’ll host the Detroit Pistons tonight in South Philadelphia.
