The Phillies continue to get disrespected, barely crack MLB.com’s Top 10 Lineups for 2023

MLB.com released their Top 10 lineups in Major League Baseball heading into the 2023 season, and the Phillies barely made the list.
The Phillies made the list in the number eight slot. Here’s what MLB.com had to say about the lineup.
8. Phillies
- Kyle Schwarber, DH
- Trea Turner, SS
- J.T. Realmuto, C
- Bryce Harper, RF^
- Rhys Hoskins, 1B
- Nick Castellanos, LF
- Alec Bohm, 3B
- Bryson Stott, 2B
- Brandon Marsh, CF
^Will begin the season on IL following Tommy John surgery
The Phillies are very clearly a top 10 lineup, but probably the hardest team to rank within the top 10 right now, only because we don’t yet know when exactly Harper will be back from Tommy John surgery and how quickly he’ll get back to his usual caliber of production. With Harper limited to DH duties (and missing more than 50 games because of a thumb injury), the Phillies managed to rank 10th in wRC+ (106) and seventh in runs (747) last year. Now, Turner gives them a huge burst of speed near the top of the order, and a Castellanos bounceback is well within the realm of possibility. So this is another ranking that, by year’s end, could look laughable, because there’s a not-small chance this is the best lineup in baseball once Harper returns.

MLB.com Top 10 Lineups – 2023 Season
- New York Mets
- San Diego Padres
- Houston Astros
- Toronto Blue Jays
- St. Louis Cardinals
- Atlanta Braves
- Los Angeles Dodgers
- Philadelphia Phillies
- New York Yankees
- Cleveland Guardians
Although it pains me to say, I do believe MLB.com got the top of this list right, especially when you take all of the “what-ifs” into account. The San Diego Padres signing Xander Bogaerts did give their lineup a big offensive boost, but they are still without Fernando Tatis Jr. for the first month of the season due to PEDs. As much as we hate them, the New York Mets got a lot better with the signing of Carlos Correa, even though they’ll just end up choking in the end.
The Phils are deep, and Philly fans know that. Disrespect from MLB.com isn’t a new thing around here, considering the fact that we were the 12th-ranked team heading into the MLB Playoffs with the 11th-best rotation.
That aged well.
