Eagles News: Injury updates on Jalen Hurts, Josh Sweat, CJ Gardner-Johnson, and more

Following a demoralizing loss to New Orleans last Sunday, the Eagles hope to get several key players back from injury ahead of the postseason.
Head coach Nick Sirianni recently spoke with reporters and provided updates for the following players:
DE Josh Sweat
Sweat suffered a neck injury on the opening drive of Sunday’s game and was carted off the field on a stretcher after a collision with fullback Adam Prentice. He was taken to a hospital soon after, released later that night, and followed up with an encouraging tweet:
Thank you for your prayers and support 🙏🏾 I’ll be back this season! #GoBirds

“We’ll take Josh one day at a time,” Sirianni said Monday. “I’m just really thankful that it wasn’t more serious there and I know everybody in that stadium was holding their breath because anytime that stretcher comes out, that’s tough to deal with. Josh was saying, ‘Hey, let me get up. I can get up.’ The doctors in that scenario have to make sure they go through all the right scenarios. I felt a little more at ease because of what Josh was saying out there.”
On a recent Inside The Birds podcast, NFL Insider Adam Caplan stated that Sweat playing in the Eagles’ first playoff game is “absolutely in play.” Sirianni had no further update when addressing reporters on Wednesday.
DE Robert Quinn, S CJ Gardner-Johnson
Quinn has been out of action since November 14 after getting his knee scoped, while Gardner-Johnson has missed six weeks due to a lacerated kidney. Sirianni said he’ll activate the 21-day practice windows for both players today.
The #Eagles will open the practice window for both CJ Gardner-Johnson and Robert Quinn. They’ll be at today’s walk-through and are each eligible to play this weekend.

CB Avonte Maddox
Maddox suffered a “significant” toe injury in the Eagles’ loss to Dallas and was seen in a walking boot following the game. Sirianni has yet to place Maddox on IR but stated today that he isn’t sure when the slot corner will return. He remains day-to-day.
QB Jalen Hurts
Sirianni didn’t commit to Jalen Hurts returning from his shoulder sprain this Sunday against the Giants. The MVP candidate is considered day-to-day and will participate in the Eagles walkthrough on Wednesday. Hurts’ designation on today’s injury report will likely indicate his status for this weekend.
The Eagles must win their season finale vs. NYG to clinch the NFC’s No. 1 overall seed and a first-round bye. A Philly loss and Cowboys victory over Washington will surrender the NFC East title to Dallas.
Update: Jalen Hurts was officially listed as limited in today’s estimation.
