Phillies lethal bullpen pair barely cracks Top 15 in recent MLB Bullpen Duo Rankings

MLB Nerds is back at it with their horrible rankings, listing Phillies relievers Seranthony Dominguez and Jose Alvarado as the 15th-best bullpen duo in Major League Baseball.
Jose Alvarado and Seranthomy Dominguez are two fantastic relievers, and this ranking is just straight-up absurd. With the additions of Gregory Soto, Matt Strahm, and Craig Kimbrel, the team is bound to have the deepest bullpen in all of baseball in 2023.
Alvarado struggled to begin the season, logging an 11.37 ERA in the month of May, which triggered the Phillies to demote the lefty to Triple-A. The move to AAA saved not only Alvarado’s season, but it saved the Phillies’ season as well.
- June: 2.57 ERA
- July: 3.60 ERA
- August: 1.00 ERA
- September: 0.00 ERA
Jose Alvarado finished his season with a 3.18 ERA, striking out 81 batters in just 51 innings. He solidified himself as a trustworthy reliever in the deep Phillies playoff run and the go-to lefty in high-leverage situations.

Seranthony Dominguez is slowly becoming one of the best relievers in baseball, and nobody is talking about it. The Phillies had to wait a while for Dominguez to succeed and throw consistently in the majors, but since he’s been healthy, he’s been absolutely lockdown.
Dominguez logged a 3.00 ERA in 51 innings in 2022 and was the best right-handed reliever in the Phillies bullpen since Jonathan Papelbon. Seranthony went on a four-month stretch, from May to August, without an ERA over 1.80.
The Phils will have some negotiating to do with both players, as both Alvarado and Dominguez failed to come to an agreement with the team on a contract for 2023. If the two sides to each player don’t agree, both players will go to arbitration hearings in February.
