Alec Bohm is riding the momentum of the Phillies’ magical World Series run into the 2023 season

Spring Training 2023 will be a complete 180 from last year for Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm.
Bohm struggled immensely in 2021, slashing just .247/.305/.342 in 115 games with 7 HRs, 47 RBIs, and an OPS+ of 75. Bohm, who was coming off a fantastic freshman year, went from a Rookie of the Year finalist in 2020 to a trade piece at the start of the 2022 season.
The emergence of Bryson Stott put the future of Alec Bohm in jeopardy and with Didi Gregorius set to be the everyday shortstop in 2022. Bohm did make the Opening Day roster but played just two games out of the first 10. His second start was a brutal one, logging a three-error game and letting out the world-famous “I fucking hate this place” line that truly flipped his season around.
“Looking back, the thing I realized is last year felt like almost two years, whereas the beginning of the season didn’t even feel like it was last season. Things are going to go up and down with this game; I’ve seen that over the course of my three years here. Just staying the course and knowing things are going to end up being OK, that’s the biggest thing I’ve learned. Just kind of staying out of my own way and playing the game.”
Alec Bohm proceeded to have the best month of his career in July, slashing .434/.457/.632 with 3 HRs, 14 RBIs, and an OPS of 1.088. Bohm got himself all the way up to the team leader in batting average and was finally the consistent third baseman that Phillies fans thought they lost.
The Phillies finally broke their playoff drought in 2022 and faced off against the St. Louis Cardinals in a 3-game set. Bohm had one of the most underrated at-bats of the whole entire playoffs, which wasn’t a home run, double, or a single. It was a hit-by-pitch that sparked the entire 9th inning for the Phillies.
Bohm proceeded to be arguably the most clutch hitter for the Phillies in the playoffs and will now be paired on the left side of the Phillies’ infield with Trea Turner. Bohm recently spoke with MLB.com and talked about how exciting it will be to play with Turner this season, but more importantly, to be out there every day with his team.
“For me, I just want to be available every day.”- Alec Bohm
A lot can change in a year, and Alec Bohm will now head into Spring Training as one of the most loved players on the team. The Phillies will be down in Clearwater in under a month, looking to finish the job in 2023.
“I think everybody’s getting pretty bored. We’re ready to get down to Florida and get going.”
