Joel Embiid, Doc Rivers win the NBA’s monthly awards in January

In case you’ve been swept up in the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl run, the 76ers have done their fair share of winning since the start of the 2023 calendar year.
Doc Rivers led the Sixers to an 11-3 record in the month of January, including a perfect 5-0 road trip out West. He’s now the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for January.
Joel Embiid wins his 2nd consecutive Eastern Conference Player of the Month Award
The NBA also announced that Joel Embiid would yet again, be named Eastern Conference Player of the Month after taking home the award in December.
Embiid and Rivers took home the awards in the East, while Nikola Jokic and Michael Malone won the awards in the West.
The top two candidates for the NBA MVP award in Jokic and Embiid faced off against each other in January in a rather one-sided matchup. Embiid won the battle, dropping 47 points to go along with 18 rebounds as the Philadelphia 76ers at the time, extended their winning streak to seven games with a 126-119 win over Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.
There’s a common theme between Embiid and the Sixers in January. The big fellow tends to lead the franchise to impressive records to start the calendar year. This year, he averaged 34.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists in January.
Note: In 2022 the 76ers finished (12-3), (11-5) in 2021, (11-4) in 2019, as well as (10-5) in 2017.
Somehow, someway the big man was not selected as an All-Star starter. To make things even more bizarre, James Harden didn’t even make the reserves?
Yeah, okay.
