Bryce Harper gives an update on his timeline to return, says he “feels great”

Bryce Harper officially arrived at Baycare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida, today and sat down with the media to discuss his timeline to return from Tommy John Surgery.
Bryce Harper: “I feel great”
“As of now, the timeline will be around the All-Star break…I can do after, I can do before. We’re not going to rush it, we’re going to be smart about it. We knew last year that this would happen. We’re thankful for the DH, I’m all about it…I love doing it.” – Bryce Harper
Bryce Harper, as he said in the video, is still just taking dry swings with no ball. Tommy John is different for everybody, but luckily for Bryce, it’s a little easier for fielders rather than pitchers. Although the team will be without him for the first few months of the season, the loose timeline right now seems to be around the All-Star break.
The Phillies are set to roll with an outfield of Schwarber/Marsh/Castellanos to open up the year, with nothing really changing from the 2022 season. The DH spot is still a question mark, but all signs lead to Darick Hall taking on the role on a limited basis when righties are at the plate, with Castellanos, Bohm, Hoskins, and Schwarber all splitting time when Hall isn’t in the lineup.
Luckily for the Phillies, the team spent money last off-season on a ton of impactful hitters. They have the options, and they have the insurance for a loss like Harper for the first few months of the season. The lineup won’t be the same without the 2x MVP, but his return to the field in July will be a great addition to the team, adding the best hitter in baseball back into this already-lethal lineup.
