Flyers Fire General Manager and President Chuck Fletcher

It is time to celebrate. Chuck Fletcher has been relieved of his duties as President of Hockey Ops and as General Manager of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Flyers News: Chuck Fletcher is Gone
To put this more simply… THE NYETMINDER, PYOTR KOCHETKOV, HAS SENT CHUCK FLETCHER TO CHINA! GET READY TO LEARN MANDARIN, YOU WRECKER OF FRANCHISES!
Now, there is something worthwhile to point out here. Chuck is not staying on as President of Hockey Ops. He’s not staying on any capacity whatsoever. He is gone, totally gone. A lot of people thought that they were going to go the route of removing his GM title and keeping him on in the PHO capacity.
That isn’t happening. Chuck Fletcher is totally gone.
Danny Briere is filling in as the “interim” General Manager while the Flyers “begin the process of filling two separate positions.”
Ergo: it is not a surefire conclusion that Danny Briere is a permanent fixture in either role. Really? I think he’ll be handed one or the other. Either he will be a long-term GM or a long-term PHO. The other position will be hired separately.
That–beyond the excitement of turning Chuck to a prospective Mandarin speaker–is a reason to believe in some sort of a positive future for this franchise.
The titles of PHO and GM needed to be separated. It should not be the case that one guy reports to nobody except ownership who barely knows the sport to begin with. Now, there’s another voice in the room to refine the decision making process.
That’s a good thing. Even if they don’t string up every “senior adviser” by their balls and drop them from the Broadway bridge.
Though, apparently, that’s still on the table…
Either way. It’s a good day to celebrate.
