Eagles Buzz: Howie Roseman is making a “strong push” to re-sign CJ Gardner-Johnson

Despite all signs pointing towards a CJ Gardner-Johnson departure this offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly still trying to work out a deal with the starting safety.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Howie Roseman is making a “strong push” to re-sign CGJ before NFL free agency begins on Wednesday.
There’s still a chance CGJ is wearing an Eagles uniform next season
Gardner-Johnson is just one of the many key players the Eagles may lose this offseason. James Bradberry, Javon Hargrave, TJ Edwards, among others, are all set to become free agents come Wednesday.
There have been numerous reports suggesting Gardner-Johnson is atop the Eagles wishlist in regards to retaining their own free agents this offseason. This latest tidbit from Fowler solidifies that even further.
At just 25 years old, CGJ is only scratching the surface of his potential. After switching from nickel corner to safety full time in 2022, Gardner-Johnson put forth his best season to date. He posted a career-high six interceptions in just 12 games last season, while racking up career-best 67 combined tackles.
He quickly became a fan favorite and would be an ideal building block for the Eagles secondary moving forward. He’s expected to garner a lot of interest on the open market, but perhaps Howie Roseman has one last trick up his sleeve to persuade Gardner-Johnson to stay. We’ll just have to wait and see.
