Garrett Stubbs has been playing third base for Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic, so the soreness may just be from an unusual position and moving from Stubbs. Manager and former MLB infielder Ian Kinsler, along with Stubbs, doesn’t believe the injury is anything serious.
Stubbs isn’t the first Phillie to deal with an injury because of the WBC. Phillies lefty Ranger Suarez returned back to Clearwater a few days ago with a forearm injury, but the team believes it isn’t a concerning injury.
Israel is set to square off against Puerto Rico tonight at 7:00 EST on FS1. Stubbs got a massive two-run ground-rule double yesterday for Israel, which would eventually lead to their first win of pool play.
As for Team USA, they have a must-win game tonight against Canada after a Phillies-less lineup got clobbered by Mexico on Sunday night. Makes you think, doesn’t it?
