Tank Watch: Flyers drop to bottom-5 in the NHL following a picture perfect night

Let’s be real, anybody who is still following the Flyers at this point is most likely rooting for losses. With only 15 games remaining and finally an urgency to rebuild, it’s clear which result will better help the franchise moving forward.
It’s all about the tank and attempting to cash in on one of the more stacked drafts in recent memory. It’s about waking up in May with hope in your heart that a lottery ball will bounce the right way.

In this regard last night was picture perfect. Every requirement needed for Philadelphia to slip into the bottom-5 happened… and then some.
Last Night’s NHL Results – Flyers Lose, Other Teams Overtake Them In The Standings
- Philadelphia: 5-3 loss vs. VGK
- Montreal: 6-4 win vs. PIT (Overtakes PHI)
- Arizona: 4-3 win vs. CGY (Overtakes PHI)
- Chicago: 6-3 win vs. BOS
- Vancouver: 5-2 win vs. DAL
- Columbus/San Jose: faced each other in a 6-5 CBJ OT win

Dropping two spots in the standings over the course of one night is extremely fortunate. It may be one day, but it’s been trending in this direction for a while now.
For the last couple of weeks all of those surrounding teams have found more of a footing than Philadelphia. The Flyers strength of schedule is also harder than most of those teams leaving us with intense scoreboard watching until April.
We’re in the home stretch of the regular season with all of the remaining games being crucial to our draft stock. Keep on improving on your draft position and put yourself in a spot to get lucky even if it isn’t deserved.
When it’s all said and done, I hope the mistakes of Chuck Fletcher paved the way for the Danny Briere era to start with a bang.
