NFL Free Agency: Colts eyeing Eagles backup QB

According to The Athletic’s Zak Keefer, the Indianapolis Colts are “looking into” Eagles backup quarterback Gardner Minshew as a potential free agent acquisition.
Given the Shane Steichen connection – the Eagles OC during Minshew’s time in Philadelphia – it would make sense for Indy to try and snag Minshew as a potential stop-gap quarterback.

Minshew went 1-3 in four starts as an Eagle from 2021 through ’22. He compiled 1,102 passing yards with seven touchdowns to four interceptions, while posting a 62.5 completion percentage and 92.8 passer rating.
Though the numbers aren’t outstanding by any measure, Minshew is still widely considered one of the best backup QB options in the NFL. Even if the Colts were to sign Minshew as a one-year stop-gap, the former sixth-round pick should be serviceable in that role as well.
As it stands, the Colts only have two quarterbacks on their roster after releasing Matt Ryan earlier this week. Our old pal Nick Foles and third-year signal caller Sam Ehlinger. Minshew would instantly be the best QB in that room if Indy does in fact sign him.
If/when Minshew signs elsewhere, it’ll be interesting to see how Howie Roseman addresses the backup QB situation in Philly.
