Everybody Hits: Phillies knock nine earned runs off Sandy Alcantara, log 20 hits in 15-3 route of Marlins

20 hits and 15 runs later, the Phillies beat the Marlins 15-3 in game one of a three-game set.

  • Winning Pitcher: Matt Strahm 5 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 6 Ks
  • Losing Pitcher: Sandy Alcantara 4 IP, 10 H, 9 ER, 1 BB

Sandy Alcantara and Matt Strahm flew through the first two innings, but the Phillies turned it on in the bottom half of the third. Jake Cave got it started in the third, crushing a 413-foot homer to right field, giving the Phillies a 1-0 lead.

The Phillies tacked on four more runs in the third inning…a Trea Turner RBI single that scored Bryson Stott, a Nick Castellanos double that scored Turner, and an Alec Bohm RBI single that scored Schwarber and Castellanos. Nick Castellanos is now tied for the league lead in doubles (7), while Bryson Stott continues his hitting streak up to ten games.

More runs continued to pile on in the 5th inning, with Nick Castellanos, Alec Bohm, and Brandon Marsh all logging RBIs, pushing the score to 9-0. Nick Castellanos knocked in his third RBI in the bottom half of the 6th, giving the Phillies a 10-0 lead,

Alec Bohm followed up Castellanos in the 6th with an absolute no-doubt three-run shot that traveled 440 feet off a hanging curveball. Rule 1: don’t hang Alec Bohm curveballs.

Matt Strahm exited the game after five innings and gave the Phillies another dominant start. Strahm has now logged ten scoreless innings on the season and has been an absolute workhorse for a team that’s running low on starting pitching depth.

Yuli Gurriel added a run in the top half of the seventh with a home run off McKinley Moore, who made his major league debut tonight. The Marlins proceeded to tack on two more off of Andrew Vasquez, with Moore responsible for the two baserunners. Vasquez proceeded to load the bases but would get out of the inning, keeping the Phillies up 10.

Christian Pache logged his first RBI as a Phillie in the bottom half of the second. Nick Castellanos proceeded to get thrown out two batters later for showing the umpire how wrong he was about a strike three call.

Brandon Marsh continued the scoring in the 8th inning, crushing his second home run of the year at 409 feet to give the Phillies a 15-3 lead. Jake Cave would follow up Marsh with a double, but the team wouldn’t bring any more runs across the plate.

Andrew Vasquez stayed in the game all the way until the end, logging 2.2 innings pitched with four hits allowed while striking out one. The Phillies locked up their fourth win of the season and will go for the series win tomorrow at 6:40 with Aaron Nola facing off against Jesus Luzardo.
