Preview: Bryson Stott slides back to leadoff, Phillies go for series win with Zack Wheeler at 4:05

The Philadelphia Phillies look to take the three game series against the Miami Marlins today at 4:05 EST.
Zack Wheeler (0-1, 5.59 ERA) takes the hill for his second home start of the season, going up against right-hander Edward Cabrera (0-1, 5.40 ERA).
Everything went wrong for the Phillies on Tuesday night, as they dropped game two vs. Miami by a final score of 8-4. Luis Arraez continued to dominate at the plate, hitting the first cycle in Miami Marlins history.
Aaron Nola fell apart in the 6th inning after a blown strike-three call from the home-plate umpire, proceeding to give up three more earned runs, essentially putting the game out of reach.
Even dollar dogs were flying throughout the stadium at the end of the game…you see what happens when the Phillies lose?
The Phils once again made a base running mistake that cost them in the end. Bryson Stott came through at the plate in the bottom half of the 6th inning with a two-run single to bring the score to 4-3 in favor of Miami, but a brilliant play by Jean Segura caught Stott hanging a little too far off the base after a wide turn around first.
The Phillies had other chances to capitalize throughout the night, but that would’ve brought Brandon Marsh to the plate with men on first and third.
Bryson Stott
Although Stott cost an inning on the bases, his bat has still been the best on the team in the early goings of the 2023 season. He logged two more hits and two RBIs last night, bringing his average up to .422 on the season, with an impressive .924 OPS.
Stott will return to the leadoff spot today; as Rob Thomson said this is something we’ll see consistently moving forward.
Zack Wheeler vs. Edward Cabrera
Zack Wheeler takes the hill for his third start of the season, still searching for his first elite outing of the year.
Wheeler got roughed up in his first game against the Texas Rangers and while he was somewhat better against the Reds, he hasn’t performed like the Wheeler we know and love. He’s has been fantastic at home since coming to Philly and goes up against a Marlins lineup that isn’t anything special other than Arraez.
Edward Cabrera has faced off against the Mets twice this season and will get his third NL East matchup today against the Phillies. Cabrera hasn’t made it past the fourth inning yet this season, allowing two earned runs. and walking 6+ in both of his starts.
He’s 0-1 on the year with a 5.40 ERA.
Phillies Starting Lineup
Notes: Bryson Stott returns to the leadoff spot. Jake Cave returns to left field, and Schwarber is in the DH spot. JT slides back to the 5-hole, and Brandon Marsh sits ahead of Alec Bohm
