Phillies narrowly avoid getting no-hit, drop doubleheader Game 2 to the White Sox 3-0.
After the bullpen closed out Game 1 of the Philadelphia Phillies’ doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox yesterday, the Fightins almost got no-hit in Game 2, losing 3-0.
Thankfully, Brandon Marsh got the Phillies their lone hit of the ballgame with an opposite-field double to begin the top of the eighth inning or else Philadelphia would have been the first no-hit victim of the 2023 MLB season.
For whatever reason, the Phillies couldn’t touch White Sox starter Lucas Giolito, who threw 102 pitches over six innings while striking out seven and walking one.
Kyle Schwarber was walked in the first inning and was the only baserunner for the Phillies until Garrett Stubbs was hit by a pitch to start the sixth.
With Marsh being the only Philadelphia Phillies player to reach to get a hit in Game 2, Bryson Stott’s franchise record-setting 17-game hit streak, which he earned in Game 1, finally came to an end.
Phillies Win/Loss/Splits in Doubleheaders:
The Phillies have swept just two of their last 32 doubleheaders and have lost both games 14 times while splitting the other 16.
It’s tough to win doubleheaders when you lack depth in your lineup.
While this season, that problem is here because of injuries, it was still on full display yesterday when the bottom of the order featured the following three players…
There has to be a better option than to run out Kody Clemens, Garrett Stubbs and Cristian Pache as the bottom three players in your lineup.
They are now a combined 5-for-47 this season, which is good for a miserable .106 batting average.
The Phillies will wrap up their series in Chicago this afternoon with Taijuan Walker (1-0, 4.20) on the mound against White Sox stud Mike Clevinger, who’s 2-0 on the year with a 2.20 ERA.
Walker allowed just one run over six innings of work in Cincinnati last time out but of course, none of that matters if you’re not hitting at the plate.
Hopefully, we’ll see Bryce Harper and Ranger Suarez back on the diamond for the Phillies in the next couple of weeks.

Kristen, Phillies fan on Twitter, has requested “Thotts for Stott” women’s tank tops so her and her friends can wear them at Phillies games this summer. Stay tuned and we’ll get them up in the store.
Also, sorry to my mom who might not like the shirt idea and is an avid reader of the website.
I just want Kristen to like me okay? Jeez.
