Preview: Phillies return home for 7-game homestand, Matt Strahm takes the hill vs. the Rockies

The Philadelphia Phillies finally return back to Citizens Bank Park after a 4-3 road trip in Cincinnati and Chicago.
Tonight starts a seven-game homestand for the Phillies with four games against the Colorado Rockies and three against the Seattle Mariners. The Rockies will enter tonight with the worst record in the National League.
Tonight’s Starting Pitchers (6:40 EST)
- Matt Strahm (1-1, 2.13 ERA)
- Ryan Feltner (0-2, 8.78 ERA)
The Phillies finished off their first road-series win yesterday afternoon with an impressive 5-2 victory over Mike Clevinger and the Chicago White Sox. Trea Turner cracked his first homer in a Phillies uniform, along with Brandon Marsh’s third HR of the year. Nick Castellanos and Bryson Stott each recorded an RBI, continuing their hot starts at the plate.
Taijuan Walker threw his best start of the season, going six and a third innings allowing just five hits and two earned runs while striking out three. Walker’s two earned runs came off a two-run bomb in the first inning, but the Phils starter settled in perfectly after that, throwing five scoreless innings of work en route to his second win of the season.
Now 8-11 on the season, the Phillies look to win their second series in a row against a Rockies team that has struggled immensely. They’re 5-14 on the year and currently sit in last place in the NL West. They’re just 2-7 on the road and have lost eight in a row, while holding a -51 run differential.
As for the Phillies, they look to carry their hot bats right back to CBP. The daycare continues to lead the way for the Phillies, with Bryson Stott averaging over .365 in the last seven days, while Alec Bohm is slashing .324/.400/.493. Brandon Marsh has been the underlying backbone of the team so far this season and is currently slugging .737 over the last seven days.

Matt Strahm vs. Ryan Feltner
Matt Strahm takes the hill for the Fightins today, making his fourth start and fifth appearance so far in 2023. Strahm, surprisingly, has led the way so far for this struggling Phillies rotation, logging just a 2.13 ERA and 16 strikeouts with a 0.95 WHIP. He’s coming off a bit of a rough start in Cincy, allowing two this and three earned runs in just 2.2 innings of work.
Ryan Feltner is just about the complete opposite. He’s gotten roughed up in his first three starts, allowing 13 earned runs in 13.1 innings so far in 2023. He’s struck out 15 batters and holds a 1.95 WHIP while opposing hitters are hitting .278 against him. Right-handers have logged a 1.049 OPS against Feltner.
