Rob Thomson gives the date for Bryce Harper’s final doctor’s appointment, should be cleared to play after that

We’re inching closer and closer to Bryce Harper’s return to the Phillies lineup.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson hopped on the WIP Morning Show with Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie this morning and talked all things Phillies, including last night’s loss, but most importantly, the final update on Bryce Harper.
Bryce Harper’s Final Appointment is May 1st
Harper’s appointment is scheduled for May 1st. The final hurdle that still needs to be cleared is head-first sliding, but the team and Harper believe that he’ll clear that hurdle on Monday. This sets up Harper’s potential return to remain on May 5th, when the Phillies come home after a six-game road trip.
Bryce Harper has been throwing the baseball every day, along with taking live batting practice and soft toss from coaches on the field ahead of every game. Thomson reiterated that Harper’s recovery is one of the fastest recoveries from Tommy John that the league has ever seen.
Harper has continued to take ground balls at first base pregame but won’t play 1st right when he comes back. Expect Harper to DH for at least a few weeks to a month before trying first base out in a game.
The Phillies dropped game one to the Mariners last night by a final score of 5-3. Logan Gilbert gets the ball for the Mariners, going up against Taijuan Walker for the Fightins.
