Eagles Buzz: Jalen Carter believes he’ll be drafted by Philadelphia if he lasts until 10th overall

If Georgia’s standout defensive tackle Jalen Carter is still on the board when the Eagles are on the clock at tenth overall, there’s no doubt Howie Roseman will pull the trigger. Don’t take my word for it, Carter himself believes it, too.
Speaking at an NFL Play 60 event down in Kansas City – the city holding this year’s NFL Draft – Carter was asked if he’s certain the Eagles will take him at ten if he’s still available. He didn’t give us your typical, “anything can happen,” response. Carter was pretty clear with his thoughts.

One of the first pre-draft visits Carter took was to Philadelphia, where he met with the Eagles brass. I have to imagine the team promised him he wouldn’t last past 10 if he begins to slide. Regardless of his off-field issues, he’s too talented to not take him at tenth overall. Trading up for him may be a stretch when you consider some of the question marks surrounding him, but if the team doesn’t have to do that and can just get him at ten, it’s a win-win.
Taking Carter at No. 10 is probably the most ideal scenario for the Eagles in the first-round. They’ll get a guy who is arguably the best overall prospect in this draft class without giving up any assets to acquire him. Plus, he solidifies a position that is a bit of a question mark entering the 2023 season.

Fletcher Cox is still solid but is clearly out of his prime. Jordan Davis and Milton Williams are nice pieces who have a ton of potential, but neither have lived up to their ceilings just yet. Inserting Carter to this group ensures they’ll be dominant in the trenches this season and beyond. Something the Eagles always strive for when constructing their defense.
The NFL Draft is only one day away. We’ll find out what our Eagles are going to do in no time.
