The Philadelphia Phillies will kick off a five game home stand tonight with a three game weekend set against the Boston Red Sox.

The Phils got a much-needed off day on Thursday after three brutal games out in Los Angeles.

It was an ugly end to their road trip thanks to a blown five-run lead capped off by a walk-off grand slam from Max Muncy on Wednesday afternoon. The Phillies now sit two games under .500 at 15-17, seven games behind the NL East leading Atlanta Braves.

Whenever you allow 36 runs in three games, the final results probably aren’t going to be pretty.

Bryce Harper’s return was a bit underwhelming due to the performance of the Phils, but the star did get on base all five times on Wednesday. He now returns to Citizens Bank Park for the first time since last postseason.

The Fightins have a chance to really get back in the win column this weekend vs. a struggling Red Sox pitching staff. Although their lineup has been pretty lethal to start the year, their arms have really held them back from becoming a major threat in the AL East.

Zack Wheeler vs. Chris Sale

Zack Wheeler has logged a 3.12 ERA in three home starts this season, tallying 17.1 innings at The Bank. Wheeler holds a 3.86 ERA on the year with a 1.22 WHIP, a 3-1 record, and 41 Ks.

Chris Sale has struggled immensely for Boston this season, holding a 6.75 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 29 innings pitched. He’s walked ten batters and allowed five homers, but is coming off a good start vs. the Guardians.
