WATCH: Bryce Harper ditches batting gloves, hits first home run of the 2023 MLB season

Bryce Harper made his return to Citizens Bank Park on Friday night as the Phillies opened a 3-game series against the Boston Red Sox.
Bryce Harper back at Citizens Bank Park
Harper’s return to baseball after just 160 days of recovery time from Tommy John surgery has been nothing short of incredible. In four games (26 at-bats) harper is hitting .375 with six hits and a double. Last night, Harper crushed his first home run of the 2023 MLB season.Â

What made that moment even more incredible is the fact that Harper decided to lose the batting gloves ahead of the home run before crushing a baseball to deep left center field to put the Phillies within two runs of the Red Sox in the bottom of the fifth inning.

While Harper continues to amaze, the Phillies can’t seem to right the ship and have lost six straight games following last night’s 7-4 loss.
Pitching has been absolutely horrible, with the Phillies starters tallying a 9.91 ERA while allowing 29 earned runs in just over 26 innings of work during the losing streak.
Last night’s pitching blunder came from Bailey Falter, who allowed five earned runs in less than four innings of work.
Luckily, Ranger Suarez is on track to return next weekend in Colorado and should provide a much needed lift to the rotation, replacing Matt Strahm, who will fall back into the bullpen.
The Phillies will now look to avoid getting swept by the Red Sox today at 1:35PM at Citizens Bank Park. Across the street, the Philadelphia 76ers will be looking to tie the series against the Celtics at 2-2.Â
