Preview: Phillies head to Colorado for a 3-game set against the Rockies

The Philadelphia Phillies, winners of three straight, head to Colorado this weekend to take on the Rockies in a 3-game series.

Starting Pitchers

  • Taijuan Walker (3-2, 5.97 ERA)
  • Austin Gomber (3-4, 6.75 ERA)

While the Phillies have sort of taken a backseat in Philadelphia this week due to the Sixers vs. Celtics series, the Fightins are winners of their last three and are coming off a huge 2-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Wednesday’s 2-1 win was a true pitchers’ duel, as Zack Wheeler and Kevin Gausman both had their best stuff going on the mound for their respective teams.

  • Zack Wheeler: 7 IP | 3 H | 1 ER | 7 Ks
  • Kevin Gausman: 6 IP | 3 H | 0 ER | 9 Ks

The Phillies won the game in the bottom of the 10th inning thanks to a throwing error from Bo Bichette on a Bryce Harper grounder back to the pitcher. Luckily, Edmundo Sosa started the inning on second base and went flying around third to score the game-winning run.

Now 18-19 on the season, the Phillies have jumped into third place in the NL East thanks to the collapsing New York Mets going 3-7 in their last 10. The Phillies carry their 3-game win streak to Coors Field to take on a Rockies team that is last in the NL West, but 8-2 over their last ten games.

The Rockies are being led by Elias Diaz, who is hitting .333 on the year and .396 at Coors with 3 homers and 13 RBIs (18 total). Kris Bryant has improved back to his normal self this season, hitting .301/.380/.451 on the year while C.J. Cron leads the team in homers (6).
