Rumor: Craig Kimbrel could get invited to 2023 MLB All-Star Game

Phillies reliever Craig Kimbrel could be heading to the midsummer classic.
According to Bob Nightengale, the MLB is considering inviting both Kimbrel and Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen as a tribute to both players logging their 400th save this season.
Major League Baseball implemented a new rule under the new CBA where the league was able to invite one player from the NL and one player from the AL “in recognition of each player’s accomplishments.”
Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujols were the first two players to be invited under this rule last year, as both hit legendary milestones throughout the 2022 season ahead of retiring at the end of the year.
It has also been rumored that Adam Wainwright, an 18-year veteran and legendary Cardinals starter, will get invited to the All-Star Game this year as well, ahead of his retirement at the conclusion of this regular season.
Craig Kimbrel hasn’t had an “All-Star worthy” season so far for the Phillies, but his 5.32 ERA is extremely misleading. He’s allowed just two earned runs since May 9th, and nine of his 13 earned runs allowed have come in three outings.
Save #400 for Craig Kimbrel
This would be Kimbrel’s 9th All-Star appearance over his 14-year career and he’d join Rob Thomson along with the entire Phillies coaching staff in Seattle. The Phillies coaching staff will manage the National League team after winning the NL Pennant last season.
One player on every MLB team will make the All-Star team. While the Phillies certainly haven’t lived up to expectations over the first few months of the year, Nick Castellanos and Brandon Marsh are likely the leading candidates for a spot on the NL roster.
